Calvert Cliffs State Park

We had such a "back to nature"experience today! The first sign on the red-marked trail read "Listen". It was so nice to have a "rule follower" among us! Luke, John's friend, kept us quiet. We were able to hear the chirping birds, the rustling leaves, and the babbling brook! It was quite a change from the hour ride there...

After 1.8 miles of relative silence, we arrived at the beach and the monkeys dug for shark's teeth and "dinosaur bones". Sarah initiated a little cliff climbing, and the boys followed.

Once the explorers gathered enough fossil samples, we trekked 1.8 miles back. Amazingly, not a complaint of fatigue was muttered. They even had enough energy to enjoy the tire park. The boys did catch a skink... well the skink's tail. I didn't know the tails still wiggled when they were detached from the body! The boys were having a GREAT time with the wiggling tail! I informed them that we must not take it home with us! With my luck, it would get lost in my car... only to be "discovered" by my nose as it decomposed...

Cunningham Falls

We trekked to Cunningham Falls with some friends today! What a beautiful day for a hike! I have not been here for about 20 years! I don't remember hesitating when it came to climbing up the "boulders" to get to the "top" of the falls. Boy did I hesitate today! John was quite a billy goat, though. He scrambled up there uncharacteristically fast, with great purpose. He wanted to feel the fast running waters between his fingers! And Sarah, wow... she did not complain a bit. She followed after John...

After hiking, we headed to the lake. What a great spot! There was a playground, pit beef stand, and a little beach. They even had showers. I wish we would have brought soap and a fresh pair of clothes! Then, they wouldn't have had to take showers so late tonight!

We will return for sure!

More March 2010

We saw a river otter hanging out on a neighbor's boat. He was eating a fish and enjoying the morning quiet...

We headed to the Natural History Museum in D.C. Of course, the kids enjoyed riding the metro the most!
